It is fair to say that from 2001 to 2015, the design and build form of contract became the go to form of contract from the simple to most complex forms of construction.
The form intended for the most simple forms of construction such as system build hotels etc where the contractor could take on the design were seen as a natural progression of the contractors role and the client content that the risk in design passed to the contractor.
The form is still popular today, although amendments to the standard form and updates, allows far more sharing of the design responsibilities at differing stages of the project, which still can have significant advantages to Clients, provided they achieve their aspirations in terms of cost, quality and time.
